'Choppy waters' as stock market slumps - NBCNews.com (blog)

>>> good evening, this was the worst day of the year on wall street , and unlike other dips and dives in the stock market , the reason for what happened today was pretty clear. it was the nation's top money man, the chair of the federal reserve , who just yesterday gave a mostly positive review of the economy. but also in there was a warning that cheap borrowing may be coming to an end. that was the back drop and today the people who buy and sell stocks for a living, chose to sell, and the numbers went down. in a moment, we'll talk about how homeowners are watching this closely. let's go to where the damage was done, maria bartiromo on wall street in new york.

>> reporter: hi, brian. good evening to you. at this point, everybody has gone home at the new york symptom stock exchange . today's 350-point sell-off comes after yesterday's 200 huf point sell-off, as the federal reserve suggested winding down of the stimulus will begin at the end this year. why is that such a bad thing? once the stimulus goes away, interest rates begin to creep up, take money out of stock market and into fixed income, into bonds. while i keep my money into the stock market which is riskier, and the bond market is a bit safer. that is the thinking. i don't think interest rates will skyrocket out of control and we're down about 5%. 4.8% from the all-time highs in the market, reached in may. every time we've seen a sell-off of 5%, a lot of people expecting a correction of 5%. each time we've seen that, that selling has been met by buyers, the so-called buy on the dip mentality. i suspect we'll see a buy on the dip mentally once again, unclear if that happens tomorrow or later. looks like we'll be into choppy waters the next couple of weeks, brian.

>> mariairobartiromo, where the damage occurred.

I wear clogs all winter, and orthotic insoles would slide out of I decided to try the orthotic mules, and am quite pleased with When first put on, they felt very hard under foot, and the arch support felt like a giant However, as the shoes warm to your feet and have more "give," they provide excellent support and The toe box is quite wide, which accommodates winter socks, as well as (alas) The style is more attractive than some "corrective" shoes; the brown is a cool, dark taupe--not warm chocolate Looks good with I would prefer leather uppers, but this material seems pretty substantial and is nice For the price, this is a very good item, and I will probably buy another

I read the reviews from a foot specialty website but decided to purchase from Amazon because my Prime shipping would let me have the slippers I felt the difference in the slippers' support as soon as I put them on and my feet have been thanking me ever since!! (**This shoe would get 5 stars from me if it were leather)I am a huge fan of Orthaheel, and it is all I have worn since discovering them back in I have multiple sets of their sandals, and I have worn them every day this I orginally discovered the product when they were being featured on QVC, and I saw the presentation with the Orthaheel He said that, if you are a 1/2 size, you should size This has worked well with the However, when I ordered the size 8 in this shoe (I normally wear an 8 1/2), my second toe hit the end of the My big toe is not the longest, my second toe is, so I find that this is a problem with some shoe Anyway, I sent it back and reordered a 9, and it fits perfectly! This shoe is really cute because it works well with pants and casual It's a nice alternative to a sandal when I don't want anyone to know that I'm overdue for my pedicure! I love it with capris, and it looks nice enough to wear to And, so far, I have found that they are comfortable without have a LOT of problems with my I have plantar fascaitis, my feet are flatter than normal, and they pronate They are also slightly wide, but usually not enough to call for a wide I just have to make sure I have wiggle room in the toe box, and then they are For years, I have been on the hunt for the perfect I used to wear Dansko clogs, but my feet began to hurt because they were too Then I tried Fit Flops, and they were the most comfortable sandal I had worn in some time, but I found that they ultimately did not offer the support I needed, and sometimes my arches would Orthaheel is amazing! They took me about a day or two to get used to (I am already accustomed to wearing supportive insoles) and now my feet complain if I wear anything but! My knees don't bother me as much as they used to, These shoes have been a life saver! One thing that you should be advised that I have noticed, is that not all of the arches are exactly the Even between my sandals, I have found that some are more comfortable than I even bought one pair of sandals that I returned, because I could feel a difference in the arch between the right and the left foot! But, overall, I am very happy with all of my Orthaheel purchases, and the relief that I have experienced far outweighs the little nuances between

Don't Block The Pirate Bay - Huffington Post Canada

Today BBC News reported that an Irish court has ordered six internet service providers in that country to block users' access to popular file-sharing website The Pirate Bay. As usual (at least 10 other countries have implemented similar restrictions), the ban comes on the heels of complaints from big record labels that The Pirate Bay facilitates the unauthorized sharing of copyrighted material.

It's not a shocking notion. The Pirate Bay, which was founded in Sweden about a decade ago by an anti-copyright organization, has long been known as a spot to snap up tunes without a credit card. If you type "free music" into Google, the entire first page of results references, or directs you to, The Pirate Bay. Three of the site's co-founders, along with a site financier, even did prison time after being convicted of copyright violations.

My contention isn't that The Pirate Bay has clean hands (though there is indeed some content on the site that can be shared without violating copyright laws). What I do believe is that resorting to blanket government Internet censorship is a bad way to handle the problem.

Punish those operating the site with full knowledge that it is a de facto illegal download factory? O.K. Go after the users who are knowingly downloading the copyrighted content? I guess (though seeking million-dollar judgments against midwestern moms seems a bad PR strategy for a music industry that has itself facilitated the copyright crisis by so stubbornly refusing to offer viable legal alternatives). But don't take a sledgehammer to free speech and declare a website off limits to the population of an entire country.

What about those in Ireland who were using (or would have used) The Pirate Bay for legitimate purposes? There's nothing inherently evil or illegal about file sharing per se, and one can imagine many legal reasons for visiting. Maybe a fledgling band wants to build a reputation and is trying to get its music into the hands of as many listeners as possible. Maybe a sociologist wants to study current music preferences or trends. Maybe a journalist wants to inform readers about what really is offered on the site. I visited The Pirate Bay in the course of writing this piece. (Canada is not among the countries that have blocked access.) And while my main conclusion from the visit was no weightier than that South Park is right -- the Internet is for porn -- I still very much appreciated the ability to judge the evidence for myself rather than rely on a court's decision that I'd be better off without access to this particular information because I'm too likely to steal some of it.

As chilling as I find the idea of top-down censoring of swathes of speech and data that are not problematic in themselves, there are other considerations that counsel against forced blocking too. First and foremost, it doesn't work. Users have demonstrated time and again that they will respond to such blocks with proxy sites that get around the restrictions. Block the proxies and they'll just create new ones. Unless a government plans on implementing the sorts of authoritarian levels of control of a country like China, Cuba, or China, it's never going to win the battle to suppress access to online information.

That might be bad news for the record industry. But it's ultimately good news for the rest of us.

Though it may have the unfortunate consequence of facilitating copyright violation, an online world of info that is beyond government suppression also has the consequence of ensuring that people can inform the world of their struggles and ideas, debate and bring up controversial issues, and organize reform and rights movements. On the whole, the porn sharing is going to take up more of the bandwidth than these crucial, worthy endeavours. But that's the way free speech works. You've got to take the bad with the good, otherwise you'll soon have none at all.

You see, a government that blocks its citizens from accessing The Pirate Bay (or tries to) is one step closer to being a government that also blocks its citizens from accessing a website that threatens to foment insurrection by being critical of the ruling powers or political system. If the right to check out a file-sharing site doesn't get you excited, what about the right to check out a brutally revealing critique of your country's leadership? Isn't defending the former worth it to protect the latter? But we tend not to bother because we dismiss the whole matter as a debate about torrents and Daft Punk downloads. The key is to remember what is at stake. We're talking about our right to read, view, or listen to information. It is possible to defend copyright without taking such generous bites out of our freedom. It should be a priority to demand that governments enforce copyright in ways that don't penalize the innocent and that don't attempt to hide legal expression from view.

It can be done. But it won't be unless we make a stink.

PS4 Games to Include Indie and Mainstream Releases, 20 Exclusives - Mashable

What's This?

By Chelsea Stark2013-06-11 06:59:49 UTC

PlayStation 4 is set to come out swinging with a wide variety of games that will include mainstream and indie titles alike.

Shu Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, said the company already has 20 exclusive games lined up for PS4 in the first year of its launch. Sony spent much of the presentation highlighting all of them, which we describe, below.

The Order

This brand new title by Santa Monica Studio, creator of God of War, features a mix of high and low technology. At first, we saw horses and buggies in The Order, but then got a glimpse of some high-tech weaponry, as onscreen soldiers are attacked by an unseen force.

Final Fantasy XV

Square Enix showed off an incredibly realistic trailer for the Final Fantasy series' next chapter; it featured cinematic sequences and dramatic action.

Kingdom Hearts 3

Square Enix's other announcement of the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts 3 got the crowd at E3 cheering. While the game's trailer was only a teaser, we saw glimpses of the protaganist and the popular Disney characters he teams up with.

Destiny

Bungie's massive online first-person shooter has been teased for months. Destiny promises a whole new universe dreamed up by Bungie's creative writers, and we saw the first in-engine gameplay demo on Monday night. It looked impressive, and included different ways to solve problems, as well as a variety of weapons.

Mad Max: The Road Warrior

We saw a teaser for a game based on the 1979 post-apocalyptic film that inspired so many works of fiction. It was unclear from the trailer, however, what type of game Mad Max will be.

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag

Sony showed off a long gameplay demo of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag in which we see Edward Keller as a pirate sneaking through the jungle, fighting foes and then piloting and boarding a ship.

Watch Dogs

This Ubisoft title was announced last year to great excitement at E3, and it was a big hit with the crowd this year. We saw protagonist Adrian Pierce hack his way across Chicago, while attempting to evade police through city streets. The game will be available for both PS3 and PS4.

Indies, Indies, Indies

During its presentation, Sony emphasized the number of indie titles that will be coming to PS4 upon its release. The company highlighted games from Bastion creator Supergiant Games, whose new title, Transistor, will make its console debut on PS4.

Sony also mentioned horror games Outlast, Don't Starve and Ray's the Dead.

Which PS4 game from Sony's E3 press conference do you most anticipate? Share your favorites in the comments.

B's-Hawks: Let the Stanley Cup Finals begin - Boston Herald

The Bruins got their opponent last night and the NHL got an Original Six special for the Stanely Cup finals.

The Chicago Blackhawks beat the LA Kings, 4-3, in overtime last night to earn the right to face the Bruins. It is the NHL's first Original Six meeting in its premier event in 34 years, since the Canadiens and Rangers met. The B's will go for their second Cup in three years while the Blackhawks vie for their second in four.

The series starts Wednesday night in Chicago and here is the series breakdown:

Game 1: Wednesday at Chicago, 8 p.m. (Ch. 7)

Game 2: Saturday at Chicago, 8 p.m. (NBC Sports Network)

Game 3: Monday, June 17, at Boston, 8 p.m. (NBC Sports Network)

Game 4: Wednesday, June 19, at Boston, 8 p.m. (Ch. 7)

Game 5 (if necessary): Saturday, June 22, at Chicago, 8 p.m. (Ch. 7)

Game 6 (if necessary): Monday, June 24, at Boston, 8 p.m. (Ch. 7)

Game 7 (if necessary): Wednesday, June 26, at Chicago, 8 p.m. (Ch. 7)

The Blackhawks and Bruins haven't met in a series since 1978. They didn't play this year due to the shortened season only pitting conference foes against each other. The last time they played was Oct. 15, 2011, when the Bruins won in a shootout. Tim Thomas was in goal for Boston and Tyler Seguin scored the only shootout goal.

Just like the Bruins, the Blackhawks barely escaped a series this postseason, trailing the Red Wings, 3-1, and trailing Game 6 in Detroit in the third period. They survived, as did the Bruins, who trailed Toronto, 4-1, in the third period of Game 7 in the first round.

Chicago, like Boston, has much of its 2010 Cup-winning roster still intact. The Blackhawks were far and away the best team in the regular season, notching a league-high 77 points and posting a 36-7-5 record. They finished with 15 points more than the Bruins.

Regardless of the regular season, oth teams come into this Cup final playing their best hockey.

Taylor Swift Rocks Short Shorts, Bustier At CMT Awards (PHOTOS) - Huffington Post

Taylor Swift cranked up the heat at the 2013 CMT Music Awards Wednesday night in a sparkling black bodysuit, bustier top and short shorts.

The "I Knew You Were Trouble" singer showed her bad-girl side while performing on stage at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. Taking a cue from her title track "Red," Swift donned a split crimson dress over a shimmering bodysuit paired with black booties. And she wasn't afraid to show some leg or cleavage.

SCROLL FOR PHOTOS

Her performance of "Red" was just as hot as her outfit. Along with killer vocals, Swift spiced things up with some hair flips and cross-stage strutting.

The country crooner is known more for a flirty style than a risque one. Swift, who has a penchant for flowy dresses, has said she doesn't want people to think of her as sexy.

"It's just a life decision," she told the Telegraph back in 2011. "I like wearing pretty dresses and I like trying out new styles but I don't feel comfortable taking my clothes off. I wouldn't wear tiny amounts of clothing in my real life so I don't think it's necessary to wear that stuff in photo shoots."

Swift might have had the night's most eye-catching performance, but Carrie Underwood went home with the biggest honor of the night, winning Video of the Year for "Blown Away."

Nice quality slippers, very plush sheepskin, however they run at least a full size I wear a woman's or 8B shoe so I ordered an 8 (same size as my old Cole Hahn slippers) and they were HUGE! With my foot pushed comfortably toward the front of the slipper I had a bit over 2 inches of room in the are also much much too I will try a size 7 and review them later, but meanwhile I suggest ordering a full size (Though these say L-8, I wonder if these are a men's size 8???)EDIT: I now have a size 7, however the color sent is more of a tan, not pink as The size 7 fits much much better, but was still a bit too wide in the heel so I did a lot of adjustment with the shoe laces to tighten up the IT WORKED! The slippers now fit fine, are very comfy, and you can't beat the price! I recommend this purchase, but order a full size smaller and tighten the width with the

Brent Seabrook's OT goal sends Blackhawks past Red Wings, into Western ... - New York Daily News

Nam Y. Huh/AP

Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook (c.) looking up, celebrates after netting the OT goal.

BLACKHAWKS 2, RED WINGS 1 (OT)

CHICAGO ' When the Chicago Blackhawks were on the brink of playoff elimination, they had the feeling that all they needed was one win to turn it around.

They were right.

Brent Seabrook sent a wrist shot past Jimmy Howard's glove 3:35 into overtime, and the Blackhawks completed an improbable comeback with a 2-1 victory over the Red Wings in Game 7 of their second-round playoff series on Wednesday night.

'You go back to after Game 4,' coach Joel Quenneville said. 'Their approach and the belief in the room, and each other, was there. It was a strong season and we had to find a way. I think winning here in Game 5 got us excited again and got the momentum back.

'The last two games were tightly fought and amazing games.'

The Blackhawks, who had the best record in the NHL regular season, rallied from a 3-1 series deficit to reach the Western Conference finals against the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings.

For just the second time in NHL history, the final four teams remaining in the playoffs are the four most recent Stanley Cup winners. Chicago captured the Cup in 2010.

Seabrook picked up a loose puck and skated in on Howard through the middle of the ice, with Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall in front of him. His shot hit Kronwall's leg before it sailed into the left side of the net for the defenseman's first goal of the postseason.

'I don't know if I saw it go in to be honest,' Seabrook said. 'I just heard the horn going and the boys jumping out. It was a pretty exhausting game, but I think I was more tired during the celebration with guys jumping and pushing me in the face and dragging me down.

'It's exciting. You don't get to do that too many times.'

JEFF HAYNES/ReutersDetroit's Kyle Quincey (l.) and Chicago's Brandon Saad pick up penalties to negate a Blackhawks goal.

The sellout crowd of 22,103 roared as Seabrook skated over to the boards and was mobbed by his delirious teammates.

Howard put his arm around Kronwall, who was down on one knee, and tried to console him while the Blackhawks celebrated.

'It's tough. How do you get upset at someone who's sacrificing their body out there to block shots?' Howard said. 'Kroner has been huge for us all year and you know, he doesn't deserve that luck.'

It was quite a change from the end of the third period, when the Blackhawks thought they had scored the go-ahead goal. But it was waved off with less than 2 minutes remaining by referee Stephen Walkom, who called a pair of penalties behind the play.

Patrick Sharp put Chicago in front in the second period, but Henrik Zetterberg tied it in the third for No. 7 Detroit, which beat second-seeded Anaheim in seven games in the first round. Howard finished with 33 saves.

'They're a very talented group,' Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. 'I think we pushed them very hard in the series and had a lot of fun doing it.'

Chicago made it to the conference finals for the first time since it won the title three years ago and will host Los Angeles in Game 1 on Saturday. The Kings advanced with a 2-1 victory over San Jose in Game 7 on Tuesday night.

Bruins join elite company - Boston Herald

How do you define an elite organization?

If it's based on playoff success, consider that since the start of the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs, only Detroit and Pittsburgh have won more series than the Bruins' eight.

The Red Wings and Penguins have won 10 apiece. The other two teams of the five that have made the playoffs every year since 2008 are San Jose with six series wins and Washington with three.

Now that the Bruins are in the Eastern Conference finals for the second time in three seasons, it might be time to consider that general manager Peter Chiarelli's promise to make the Bruins an elite franchise has come to fruition.

'Yeah, I mean, things change so quickly,' Chiarelli said during a press conference at TD Garden yesterday. 'You've got to move with the changes and the trends. We've got a real good foundation and we've had success. Things can change quickly, you've got to move quickly to make decisions soundly and quickly. You have to be proud of what we've accomplished here.

'But having said that, it's a demanding town and they expect the best. We try and give it to them.'

Every organization outside of Detroit and Pittsburgh has tried to emulate the Red Wings and Penguins by identifying a core of players to build around for the long term, drafting and developing players to supplement that core, and doing it all within the salary-cap system established in 2005.

Despite the collapse of 2010 and the first-round exit of 2012 that sandwiched the Stanley Cup championship in 2011, Chiarelli has stayed loyal to a core led by Zdeno Chara, Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Milan Lucic, and again it's paid off this season.

'Those are decisions that we make, that I make, that you get to know the players,' Chiarelli said. 'There's a fine line between loyalty to these players and making the right decisions, and that's what I have to do as a manager.

'Two years ago you did what we did, and you see how these guys work and how they will go to the wall for you. The initial premise isn't difficult. It's like, 'Wow, we've won.' Historically, it's been a difficult exercise for teams that have won and then have tried to keep the core together, and then you make some mistakes. .'.'. It's easy to say, let's just keep everybody and see if we can do it under the cap and all that, but that's not always the right thing. It's a challenge.'

Identifying and developing talent isn't a one-man job. Chiarelli has built a strong team off the ice, both in amateur and pro scouting, and in the coaching staff at the American Hockey League and NHL levels.

'To put together the depth that we like and we're able to use, and to manage it at all levels, at the minor-pro level, at the amateur level and this level is a hard job, and it's a testament to those that I work with,' Chiarelli said.

Now it'll be up to that core group and the supporting cast to up their game in an effort to best the top-seeded Penguins and do something only Detroit and Pittsburgh have done since the 2004-05 lost season: reach the Stanley Cup finals twice.

'I would expect that would come natural, just from where we are at this level in the playoffs and with the team that we're playing,' Chiarelli said. 'There's some storylines that I'm sure will be highlighted that'll probably help them a little bit whether they admit it or not. I think it's just now we're at a stage where, I can recall the last time, there was no issues in getting them up for Tampa (before the 2011 East finals).

'I think they're at a stage where that comes natural, and I'd be disappointed if they weren't. Now, this is a tough team we're playing. It's going to be a tough battle and you're going to see ebb and flow with these series, too. I would think that they would be up for it.'

Daniel Green Women's Hildie Slipper,Black,9 M US User Reviews
I love the look of the slipper and wear it out of the house. The denim look goes with jeans, the boiled wool and "fleece" keep my feet comfy but not sweaty. The workmanship seems to be excellent. My only disappointment is the lack of any arch support.Slipper fits true to size and I think a medium could accommodate a wide foot, as the inside of the slipper is relaxed.
- night owl

Very comfortable and warm slippers. A great value for a quality product. I would recommend this product to anyone. AAA

I gave these slippers to my wife and she loves them. The fit is perfect and she loves the material. The quality is wonderful. The style is crisp and elegant. Plus, the sole allows her to walk outside without fear of ruining them. Excellent purchase.

I prearranged my fixed mass..as the slipper arrived it was road too generous and extremely uncomfortable because it was so rigid! Slippers must be snug...wretched, exhausted to be fond of them keep for they only did not bring about!

Good support for my arches and so comfortable. They look good also. I love them! Worth every penny, as they're obviously well made, and will last.

Daniel Green Women's Avery Scuff,Chocolate,7 M US Purchaser Reviews

Daniel Green Women's Avery Scuff,Chocolate,7 M US Purchaser Reviews
I was tired of wasting my money on flimsy slippers with no support and had read good things about most of the Daniel Green slippers. My mom LOVED the gold Lucy bedroom slippers her whole adult life and was very disappointed when they were discontinued. Anyway, I normally wear a size 8 and ordered the Avery scuff in a size 8 and, as I had already read, they were snug at first. Within a couple of days of wearing them with thick socks, (which you should always do people, because your feet sweat, even in the winter, and it is much easier and more hygienic to wash your socks and your slippers will stay fresh and clean much longer) they fit perfectly and are sooooo comfortable. They do have some arch support which I appreciate and, while they describe the footbed as latex, it seems to be a memory foam which perfectly conforms to my foot without just going completely flat. About a month before I got these I had purchased a pair of Isotoners at a local department store which stretched out and did go flat in just a few days of wearing them around the house. So if these go on sale I will definitely buy another pair. Love them!
- chris/den

Daniel Green makes the best house shoe on the market in my opinion. As a child I remember my grandmother loved hers. They are extremely comfortable and really keep your feet warm. I normally wear a 9 1/2 shoe and I order a 10 in these house shoes and they fit perfectly. They are extremely well made; I have never worn a pair out. I admit I try to order a new pair each year just for variety.
- bootheel

Brought these for my wife for Christmas and she loves them. She says they very soft and of high quality. Would buy Daniel Green products again.
- Charles M. Hunts "Older than dirt"

I bought these as slippers for the winter months. So far I'm happy with them and the sole is thick enough I can even use them as shoes sometimes too (although I would only wear them in reasonable weather). They're warm enough but not suffocating, and they pretty much look as advertised (I bought the brown/blue combination).I have to admit, these DEFINITELY run small though. While my shoe size can range anywhere from 9-10, I read that in purchasing these shoes one needs to size up so I went with a 10. If my foot were ANY longer, even a 10 wouldn't have been enough (I would say I average 9.5 across most shoe, 10 if I really want it roomy). I would recommend sizing up at least a half size, if not a whole size, otherwise you'll find them unwearable what with the mini-heel in back. As far as width, my feet feel like they have plenty of room, although my feet may be a bit on the narrow side; for women with very wide feet, these might prove somewhat tight. As for durability, Lord knows. But they seem like they'll probably hold up. The cushion within may eventually sag a bit, but slippers normally aren't especially durable in that department anyways since they're made to be soft rather than supportive longterm. These aren't super-soft and cushy inside, but then they're also a bit more breathable that way too. For me, they're soft enough.Twenty-some-odd dollars was pretty darn good for the quality. I'm pleased and would generally recommend them to others.
- Grewupon Movies "GM"

I bought these slipper and thought I was getting an American tradition based on this product description:From the ManufacturerIn 1881 Daniel Green, a young traveling shoe salesman for the Wallace Elliott Company in New York City, visited Dolgeville, New York. Daniel was shown a pair of felt shoes fashioned from waste pieces of piano felt which had been made in the Dolgeville Felt Mill. Daniel Green noticed that these felt shoes were worn by many factory workers to keep their feet warm and comfortable on the cold factory stone floors, and thus a legend in footwear was born. What could be more wonderful than a pair of these? They arrived, and the box boasts about all the recycled matterial used and how 'going green' will make me 'feel good'...Trouble is, these babies are made in China! How green is that?Next time I'll just go to Wal Mart.
- Tara Richards

it is good and lest longer. I brought the second. warm and comfortable. I only wear it at home. Ok.
- rose

This is a comfortable, cozy slipper. It is great to wear around the house (I wear mine all day some times), and the semi hard sole is appropriate to step out and grab the mail or toss the trash without having to change into different shoes.
- impacteternity

Every year or two our daughter requests this style slipper. Through the years we have bought many brands. She says these are the most comfortable she has ever had. They also look like the most durable.
- skyart

I usually order the Haflinger slipper but I thought that they were a little too expensive so I decided to try these. So far, they are really comfortable and yes, they were a little snug at first, but usually wool slippers do stretch out (as did my Haflinger's) and this is my second day wearing them and they fit like a glove with good arch support. I'm not sure how long the arch support will last and whether it'll flatten out, but so far so good. Nice and warm and it feels really soft inside. Great price as well since I got these on sale ($18.95).Added July 23, 2011Okay, these are still nice with descent support but not as nice as my Haflinger's. These are also too warm to wear in warm weather. I think they are still a great deal.
- home baker

I would but these over and over again! Seemed a little snug at first but they form into your foot perfectly after you wear them then they are perfect. Warm comfy great quality best slipper shoe I have ever had.
- Tara Richards

...on something that was so inexpensive. The materials and workmanship are excellent, the slippers fit well and are comfortable, and they LOOK as if they'd be sturdy enough to even wear outdoors. (I just got them, so I cannot vouch for their wearability in an out-of-doors situation yet, but they have soles that look more like those found on outerwear than what's typically on house slippers.)
- Cynthia L. Stern "Cyn Stern"

These slippers are not as comfortable as I had expected. They are loose fitting on my feet and don't stay on the best. The sole is hard on the bottom which makes them less comfortable as well. If I had tried them on in a store, I would have passed on them.
- mariacb

These slippers are awesome. If you're a half size, go the next size up. For example, I wear a 7 1/2 so I bought an 8 and they fit perfectly. The insides are so cuddly soft and the rubber soles are nice and secure for walking on the slippery tile surfaces in my home. The folks at the Warm Things office are super helpful, too!
- N. Park

These are very warm, well made slippers, especially for the (sale) price. Shipping was fast too. My only complaint would be that the description said to order in your normal shoe size, but be warned-- these slippers run HUGE! I always wear a women's size 9 so that's what I ordered. They felt comfortable and were a little roomy when I first received them in January. Now, in March, since the shearling has packed down they are an absolute sloppy fit. It's very easy to trip when walking in them. I'll order a size 8 next time around.
- ztlits

This is the 2nd pair of "like" slippers I've owned and they are tops on my list. Very cozy, comfortable and durable. Would definitely purchase again.
- Nunie Gravelle "Shanny"

These are a fantastic value! Warm and supportive, quiet and NOT bulky!!The soles are a flexible semi soft rubber. The sheepskin is plush and does not send off fluff!! These are a great value. You must be patient -- shipping took awhile.
- laura brown

These slippers are extremely comfortable and warm. The one draw back is that even though I have a wide foot, these slippers are still a little wide. As long as you are not climbing stairs all day they are great!
- Alkaseltz9

Well made, warm, and comfortable. I wish I'd bought a pair years ago.
- N. C. Shaw "nancshore"

I bought these for warmth so they're fine with me. Your feet will not get cold in these. But they are like walking in flippers. There is no arch support and the sole is like a frozen slab of steak for all the flexibility, weight and thickness it posesses.I should also mention that buying a size smaller works fine. They'd be even clumsier if too large.
- chef's mom

These are the most comfortable pair of slippers i have ever own.I have not taken them off since i bought them a year ago, except to wash them of course. I throw them in the washer and dry them in the dryer and they come out good as new.
- S. Grant

  • eVent waterproof breathable membrane keeps feet dry and cool
  • Encapsulated Shoc Pad in the heel for shock absorption
  • Mush Infused Insole provides signature Teva comfort

The Fluff sheepskin scuff from Slippers International is a versatile slipper that'll keep you warm, cozy, and thoroughly cushioned. Pad around the house, or take it outside: Either way, your comfort will be assured.

Bruins-Penguins has some juice - ESPN

Crosby vs Chara Key For Penguins-BruinsCrosby vs Chara Key For Penguins-Bruins

BOSTON -- Oh, the storylines.

What would an Eastern Conference final between the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins be without a bunch of juicy storylines for the media to serve up and for the fans to digest while we wait for the puck to drop on the series?

No doubt it would still be good hockey, but there are just so many off-the-ice tidbits to make this series even more interesting.

Before we tackle the most-recent connection between the teams -- you know, the one about star-studded trade chip Jarome Iginla deciding he wanted to play for the Penguins instead of the Bruins at the trade deadline -- there are a few more we can dissect.

Let's start at the top of the management chain. After the 2005-06 season, the Bruins were looking to hire a new general manager to replace Mike O'Connell, who had been fired by the organization. The leading candidate was Nashville Predators assistant GM Ray Shero, but talks between the Bruins and Shero broke down in the 11th hour of negotiations, and the Penguins quickly signed Shero as their GM.

So the Bruins turned their attention to then-Ottawa Senators assistant general manager Peter Chiarelli, who eventually was hired to succeed O'Connell in Boston.

Under Shero, the Penguins have reached the postseason in seven consecutive seasons and won the Stanley Cup in 2009. Under Chiarelli, the Bruins have earned a playoff berth in six of his seven seasons as GM, which include a Stanley Cup title in 2011.

Shero inherited a potent lineup led by budding superstar forwards Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.

Chiarelli and the Bruins were at the ground level of building a championship roster. Defenseman Zdeno Chara signed as a free agent and was immediately named team captain the same season Chiarelli was hired. Patrice Bergeron, who was only 21 at the time, had already played three seasons in the NHL and proven himself to be a true leader on and off the ice. David Krejci was just beginning his career, and goaltender Tim Thomas was thought of as only a backup.

Along the way, both GMs turned their teams into perennial winners, and it's amazing that this season is the first time since 1992 the Bruins and Penguins will face off in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

It's also fitting that this series will decide which team will represent the Eastern Conference in the 2013 Stanley Cup finals.

Which brings us back to Iginla.

[+] Enlarge

Scott Levy/NHLI/Getty ImagesMatt Bartkowski, who was part of the deal that would have brought Jarome Iginla to Boston, has been a big factor on the Bruins' blue line.

The future Hall of Famer had spent his entire career with the Calgary Flames, but the 35-year-old forward has yet to win the Cup. The Flames reached the finals in 2004, but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning. It was inevitable Iginla would be traded this season to a contender, and he even waived his no-movement clause and gave the Flames a list of teams he would accept a trade to, including Boston, Pittsburgh, the Los Angeles Kings and Chicago Blackhawks.

Around noon on March 28, Flames GM Jay Feaster informed Chiarelli that the Bruins had won the sweepstakes for Iginla. In the deal, the Bruins would send defenseman Matt Bartkowski, prospect Alexander Khokhlachev and a first-round draft pick to Calgary in exchange for Iginla.

Before the deal could be finalized, Feaster needed to get the OK from Iginla. Nearly 12 hours later, the Bruins were informed there would be no deal because Iginla chose the Penguins and Crosby over the Bruins and Bergeron.

The next day at Bruins practice, the players showed no animosity toward Iginla for his decision, but coach Claude Julien had an interesting comment.

"That was his entitlement," Julien said. "He's got a no-trade clause, and when you look at what Pittsburgh's done, you've got to respect the guy's decision. It was his decision to make, and he made that.

"It'll be at the end of the year he'll see whether he made the right decision or not. Certainly, there's no animosity here. We're a good team. If he came here, he would have made us better. He's not here because he went somewhere else. We turn the page because it's about us right now; it's not about him."

Chiarelli turned his attention to Jaromir Jagr and acquired him from the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Lane MacDermid and Cody Payne, along with a conditional pick in the 2013 draft. Now that the Bruins have reached the conference finals, that pick becomes a first-round selection.

So Jagr and Iginla, two future Hall of Famers, will square off in the conference finals.

"I always thought you had to go through them to get to where we want to go at some point," Chiarelli said of the Penguins. "It's been well chronicled, the Iginla stuff and the Jagr stuff, so we're happy with who we got."

In 11 regular-season games for the Bruins, Jagr scored two goals and added seven assists for nine points. Iginla provided five goals and six assists for 11 points in 13 regular-season games for the Penguins. In the playoffs, Iginla has four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 11 games, while Jagr has only four assists in 12 games.

"I think Jags makes that switch that Claude made, Jags is really compatible with Bergy's line on the strong cycle and the wearing down of the opposition," Chiarelli said Sunday. "I know he's been snakebitten a little bit, but he's had a lot of chances; he's created a lot of chances. But, more importantly, in addition to the looks he gives the power play, he wears down the defense, and there's always two guys on him.

More On The Bruins

Joe McDonald, James Murphy and ESPNBoston.com will have the Bruins covered throughout their playoff run. Blog

' Send Joe or James a question

"I think we would've been fine with either, but we're very happy with Jags; and the price to pay, a first-round pick, you've got to pay to get a quality player. We've shown that we've been able to replace those types of players -- Torey [Krug] wasn't even drafted -- through trade, through draft, through free agents. There's different ways to skin the cat."

Another angle to this storyline is Bartkowski. If the Iginla deal to Boston had been completed, Bartkowski would already be on summer vacation. Instead, he's been a key contributor on the Boston blue line in the playoffs, and now the Pittsburgh native will have an opportunity to play against his hometown Penguins. He actually had posters of Jagr and Mario Lemieux on his wall when he was a kid.

"It's going to be awesome; it's going to be a blast," Bartkowski said. "Growing up there, it was a lot of fun watching them. Now, being able to play against them will probably be even more fun. So I'm pretty excited."

In retrospect, Chiarelli says he's happy with the way the things have worked out with Bartkowski and Jagr.

"If you're asking me am I happy because I kept him instead of getting Iginla, yes. Now, yes. He's helped us. You've seen him emerge. But it also shows you that we're willing to give up good players to try and help the team win now," Chiarelli said.

"We've got a lot of good players now. We didn't want to give up Bart, but that was the case at the time. The depth that you talk about that's helping us now, we had it further on down the line in the organization. That helps us deal for players now, but I'm glad to have him right now."

Storylines aside, it's going to be an intense series on the ice.

Both teams have the ability to roll out four good lines, and the matchups will be interesting. The depth, veteran presence, impact players and experience both teams possess make this a close matchup.

"It will be a battle of deep teams," Chiarelli said.

Loved that comfort and style of these shoes, unfortunately, wide-width was much too wide and had to send them back. Return shipping to Germany took awhile (via First Class mail) but the vendor was very responsive to inquires and a refund is forthcoming.

I had these on my list for a long time and to my delight, they went on sale. I put them on the minute they came in the mail. The furry lining is just right, not overpowering so they'd be hot, but comfy and cozy. They're sturdy enough to wear outside and they appear to be made as well as my Fit Flop boots which I wore all winter. The suede is nice, not the "stringy" kind that shows wear so quickly. I looked closely and the stitching is great and there are no loose threads anywhere. Amazon delivered four days ahead of the anticipated delivery date. Perfect slippers, free and speedy shipping and absolute satisfaction with my purchase! No one could ask for more!
- Rebecca B. Young "Dixiemomma4"

I love these slippers. I use to put my orthotics in my slippers and found them to always need adjusting. These slippers give me plenty of support and my feet are no longer painful walking around the house!
- Debbie Faes

I discovered Fitflop sandals and fell in love with them. I have plantar fasciitis and after a day on my feet my heel hurts, even with my orthotics. I'd put on my fitflop sandals and my feet would feel so much better. Now that the weather has gotten colder I needed something that gave me the same relief but would keep my toes warm in my chilly house. This slipper does just that. Fitflops are great!
- T. Hardin

Gave away a brand new pair of slippers I just bought after these arrived. They were "too soft" and had no support. Fit Flops always have excellent arch support.I put these "slippers" on immediately after getting home from work, now that cooler weather is here. It's almost a misnomer being called a "slipper" as they definitely can be worn outside. Will probably buy another pair in black.Usually wear a 9-1/2, but the 9 fits just fine as it has a wide toe box.
- J. Marudas

I have bad feet (flat, no padding on the bottom, plantars fasciatus, etc.) and was delighted when I discovered FitFlops last year. The soles are firm but have just the right amount of top down give in each step and provide great arch support. Ahhh, the perfect shoe, even for walking on concrete.Until this style. The sole is different in this lounge slipper. It is harder. It has some give, but compared to my other seven pairs of FitFlops (which all rate 5 stars), it does not provide the same level of comfort (relief) even when walking on carpet. Taking a step in my others is like walking barefoot on a fine St. Augustine lawn; these, well, walking on new asphalt.Loved the style of this shoe and the fit was equivalent to my others. And I have to admit it was comfortable, as long as I didn't put a bottom on the stump. If you have issues including your feet, you may want to take a pass on this style. If you don't, this is a great shoe.
- Aunt B

I just bought these for my Mum for christmas as she suffers from plantar faciatis and was having trouble even walkingShe has expensive orthotics that she wears everyday and hates them but suffers through just to try and get reliefShe has never worn any type of slipper before and I wanted her to not be going flat footed around the house so I thought that this might be a good thing to try based on the reviews...also a friend of my is an orthopedic surgeon and said they may be something to consider trying to help herShe is thrilledShe is having alot less pain and even had been getting on her treadmill at home since her feet aren't constantly in agonyI will be ordering more pairs of theseawesome...thanks fitflop
- shoeaholic

I love the way the shoes look. But, surprisingly, the soles were very hard and uncomfortable. I am more pleased with my Fortunate Gogh Fitflops which feel great!
- Jacqueline

I LIVE in these shoes. I wear them almost the household but I don't hesitate to go outside with them as the sole is so durable. These are additional than comfortable. I'm a effective mom who is on her feet all day and my feet don't hurt with wearing FitFlops. I want to buy each point they have!
- Ivapeeva

This is my following pair of FitFlops. The at the initiation pair I bought I have worn them so until they are just plain scuzzy looking and screening cryptogram of wear so I bought a new pair to wear when guest are almost or for trip. These work for me in view of the fact that they have very good help, seem to be true to size and keep up their affect well. If you are looking for a warm fuzzy surrounded by sole this may not be for you in view of the fact that the surrounded by sole just feels like a fixed shoe on your feet but gives exceptional help when permanent in the kitchen for long periods of time. Also note that these are suede and will difficulty best if treated with a protectant before to early in.
- Ann L

I have plantar faciatis and was looking for a slipper that would alleviate that pain at home. This slipper is a god-send! Pain relief and a great looking slipper as well! Will definitely buy again!
